Draft Day 2008 Empty
PostSubject: Draft Day 2008   Draft Day 2008 EmptyWed Apr 09, 2008 8:28 am

After checking all the mock drafts I have come to the conclusion that there are pluses and minuses with all of the available WR's. Example: Limas Sweed (Texas) problem with a wrist injury. Devin Thomas (Michigan State) 6 receptions as a sophomore and 79 as a junior. DeSean Jackson (California) 5' 10" tall and weighs 169 lbs. Malcolm Kelly (Oklahoma) 6' 4" tall but has a case of the drops. Mario Manningham (Michigan) lied about testing positive for pot use. It has been 10 years since the Titans have used a 1st round pick on a WR. If I were to pick a WR at #24 I would go with DeSean Jackson (California) because he can returns punts.

Draft Day 2008 Empty

I don't think the Titans are even considering using their first round pick on a wide out. Fisher will always be thinking defense. I dont want to say that their is too much depth at the position but the overall difference in the players that are slotted to go in the first and players that will still be on the board in the second and third rounds isnt that much. Manningham will drop to the third round now but the Titans won't sniff at him. It is not the fact that he smoked the lettuce, the problem is that he lied about it. The immaturity shown by the lie takes him off of our board. The need for a return specialist was answered with the signing of Chris Carr and a rookie receiver is not likely to have an effect on this years team. I think the Titans have been waiting patiently for a few years now for a big name free agent wide out who doens't rock the boat and it just hasn't happened yet.

They will be looking at corner and I wouldn't be surprised if we end up taking Jerod Mayo in the first round. He is very likely to be the best available player left by the time pick #24 rolls around. He can play inside or outside and like I said before, Fisher will always be thinking defense. By drafting Michael Griffin, they showed they are not scared to take the best player and will not reach to fill a need.

Draft Day 2008 Empty

After speaking with General Manager Mike Reinfeldt, I've gotten the impression they will take the best available player based on their draft board. Jerod Mayo could be there....Felix Jones......DeSean Jackson.....Devin Thomas.......Limas Sweed(if he falls).......Kentwan Balmer......Calais Campbell....etc

Fisher and Reese's thought process over the years was never draft a Receiver or O-line in the first round... the percentage of value is too low ( exception LT ). You can always draft those postions in the mid-to-late round and have your position coach develope them into a solid starter. The one year they strayed from that mindset was the year they drafted Dyson... and we know how that turned out. I dont know Reinfeldt position on that theroy, but I do know Fisher has more say on draft day than a'lot of other coaches. In this years draft, I have only 24 players with a first round grade and think no receiver should go before the 15th pick... drafting "Young" playmakers at the receiver positoin doesn't mean you have to draft them in the first round... that being said, my early prediction is drafting Jamaal Charles out of Texas.
